I do like me some crazy

Here’s the new Drambuie ad from Sell! Sell! (Interest declared: I enjoy a very cordial and longstanding cyber friendship with Vic from S!S!):

It ticks a lot of the boxes required for a booze ad: it’s memorable, different and for this kind of booze I happen to think that the level of craft is important. It’s an expensive drink (compared to beer or wine), and they want to convey that the people who make it don’t just toss stuff off; they give due consideration to creating something of a high standard, and that ought to show up in their advertsing. Brand consistency, I think it’s called.

Personally, I don’t think we see enough of this kind of risk taking. These days ads are almost all safe and dull. Bat-shit craziness is a welcome sight.
