The ITIABTWC Uk advertising hall of fame continues
Posted in Uncategorized
Slightly random, I know, but here is the next chunk of my Hall of Fame.
(There is an overall point to this that I will come to eventually, but for now I’d be interested to know how well – or otherwise – you think these hold up.)
1997:
Others from the same year include Levi’s ‘Kung Fu‘, Guinness ‘Statistics‘, Ford Puma ‘Steve McQueen‘ and Supernoodles ‘Dog’, but they’re not quite brilliant enough for the ITIABTWC HoF.
At some point in the future: classic ads from other years.
If This Is A Blog Then What's Christmas? – The ITIABTWC Uk ……
Here at World Spinner we are debating the same thing……
Come on Ben, stop living in the past. Let’s have a nice happy post about all your favourite digital campaigns. You know – like that thingy one where you click the box and upload a picture to it. That was genius!
Surely ‘Parklife’ is one of the best commercials ever made? And Id’ forgotten just how good the Smirnoff spot was, too. >Sigh< Good old days.
Scary and rather depressing that these were all from one year…
I could just go and look these up, but seeing as (hopefully) you will probably know straight off – who directed:
Perfect Day?
Guinness?
Puma?
Super Noodles?
Gregory Rood
Palmer
Paul Street
Kleinman
I was reminded of Perfect Day this weekend upon hearing somebody murdering it with tiny AIDs knives on the radio. Turned out it was Susan Boyle. Thank you for helping me to wash that version out of my brain with the lovely BBC turn.
Big fan of the Polo spot too. In fact, all these ads aired around the time I decided to go for Advertising at college. Wonder if I’d make the same decision based on today’s best ads *internal ‘hmm’*.
Just to echo what Mr Positive said. That is such a great Nike ad. “Whatever league you’re in. Just do it.” I just hosed in my pants.
Is that bullet time 3 years before the Matrix??
Never seen that Smirnoff ad, but the rest are all classics. The polo lamp post ad is a brilliant example of gag setup and reveal, even without actually showing the moment of impact.
Yes to all of them apart from Perfect Day which is just annoying, namely due to that fucking twat from MPeople.
Parklife makes you smile as soon as it starts, amazing ad, I love the dialogue at the beginning and the fried eggs, reminded me of the video for Weekender by Flowered Up for some reason.
I had never seen the Smirnoff ad before, incredible too.
Hey, I can’t view your site properly within Opera, I actually hope you look into fixing this.
Fucking unlikely, I’m afraid.
Strong ideas. Strong executions. Although I’ve always wondered what the bloke wearing the overcoat was doing to get himself savaged by some rabid dogs (Polo). And who were the dog handlers? Or is that just me?
I have it on good authority that he sneaked into a zoo and buggered an antelope.
The chasing people are plain-clothes zookeepers.
Makes perfect sense. Thank you for putting my mind at rest.
wow. arguably a peak there. anyone else feel the end gag in VW Lamp post was less than optimally shot? a little bit squeezed. no? OK.
A brace of total stonkers. Vintage year indeed.
The surprisingly ordinary prices campaign still gives me the shivers – though this wasn’t the best one, due to the bit that Vinny mentions. The dizzy spell in the shopping centre one was amazing. All that shaky camera looks a bit dated now, but was spot on at the time.
