Hall of fame 2009
Posted in Uncategorized
No Classics.
But there was COI ‘Breathe‘, T Mobile ‘Dance‘, McDonald’s ‘Poem‘, Barnado’s ‘Turnaround‘ and Coke ‘Organist‘.
Any suggestions for 2010 (so far)?
I’d go with John Lewis, Nike and Match.com
Maybe there are others.
I have jetlag.
I am staring at the screen like a mong.
Goodnight.
coke?
are you out of your crack smoking mind?
match.com
what a muppet.
why not put the whiskers ad on the list whilst you’re at it.
more like “hall of distinctly fucking average/where do i want to get freelance because i’d better give that agency a mention”.
good result at the weekend by the way!
John Lewis and the freezing dog is a great contender.
Well, Pat, I’m very grateful for your input.
I think if I was using this as a way to fish for freelance I might mention more agencies and kiss their arses a bit more.
Unfortunately the UK work this year has been pretty poor, so it is, as you so wittily suggested, a Hall of Distinctly Fucking Average.
And yes, Chelsea losing to Birmingham was indeed a good result.
2009
Adidas ‘House Party’
Virgin Media ‘Fantastic Journey’
2010
Sony 3d TV ‘Pure Football’
Hovis ‘Miss Chief’
Magners ‘Catch’ & ‘Straight There’
I’m out.
House Party definitely, but it was done by Sid Lee out of Canada (I think).
Virgin Media was brilliantly crafted, but (and I think this is why it didn’t pick up more for idea) we’ve all seen the ‘be transported somewhere else while you’re somewhere mundane’ thing many, many times before.
Sony 3D is certainly worth a mention, but I wonder how well it has held up in the months since it launched. Perhaps it’s the lack of solid idea that doesn’t help.
Hovis is very well made, but I’d forgotten all about it. Maybe as an ad it’s not as satisfying as its craft.
Magners feels like the better of a bad year rather than properly good. I don’t think it would be more than a bronze or diploma in say 2000 or 2004.
George, as you work for a production company, perhaps you favour the (admittedly brilliant) craft of the above. I think that their ideas (or lack thereof) let them down somewhat.
It was Sid Lee – I stand corrected.
I think your point about craft is probably about right.
PS – Have you noticed that Lynx Getting Dressed is running again? Why’s that then?
What about that social care stuff with Goldie?
Mental bastard.
You walked into that one Pat. I can’t comment I support West Ham and unless you have your newspaper upside down we are struggling still.

For 2010 – I actually like IKEA (Kitchen Party), nostalgia probably. John Lewis definetly the best though by miles.

Thoughts on the latest Kronebourg Ad with Lemmy singing a blues version of Ace of Spades?
I don’t get it, but people are talking about it!
i’d quite like to see a blog on directors treatments. have you ever done one, ben?
That weird african cadbury ad with the freaky massive head wasn’t that same time as Coke?
George, I have no idea, but I did hear that version of ‘Over The Rainbow’ in an American hotel last week. The two things must be related.
I don’t think I’ve done a post about treatments, but it’s not a bad idea.
i have an angle if you’re too jet-lagged to write it
You can write the whole post if you want.
Be sure to include something snarky about directors who use treatment writers then get paid ten grand a day to stand behind the camera.
I like the way directors always start their treatment with,
“Before I get into the treatment i’d just like to say what a great script it it.”
Jesus. Cut the crap and get on with it before I shit on my own arms.
forget the directors.
it’s the agency side that have a lot to answer for.
Do tell.
