Okay. I don’t know the gentlemen involved, and I really like KK.
But, whilst ripping stuff off is obviously very wrong, there is so much stuff being produced by so many people, things like this are bound to happen. I’d like to give these guys the benefit of the doubt.
I know people will say someone should have known (and I know the KK plates were very well publicised), but you cannot know everything that is being produced by everyone all the time.
It has happened to me in the past, it was horrible. People are quick to jump to screeching “rip-off” but sometimes it’s genuinely just horrible coincidence.
There are so many (creative) monkeys with (apple) typewriters these days that it’s bound to happen now and again.
If they didn’t steal it then their research was HORRIFIC.
‘Hey Paul, I’ve got a spec idea for John Smiths…’ Mike: ‘Oh right.’ Paul: ‘Yeah, we do a plate with ‘thanks for the extra day off’ on.’ Mike: ‘I like it. But there are loads of people doing spoof plates out there, we should check to make sure it hasn’t been done.’ Paul: ‘Nah.’
This wouldn’t happen. At the very least the producer or whoever would say: ‘Nice, but I’ve seen KKOutlet’s plate that’s the same. It was done a while back and was in ALL the newspapers and even on the telly news.’
In conclusion: NICKED. Straight to Copy Cunts please. Next…
The paper plate is better than what KK did. I wouldn’t say it’s stealing either. KK weren’t the first to do something funny with a commemorative plate. http://www.plates4obama.com
People are so quick to point the finger. Fucking YAAAWN!
Copycunts is a pretty fun website, but they got it horribly wrong recently when lambasting the T-Mobile Royal Wedding viral doing the rounds at the moment. It wasn’t nicked. They did that viral precisely BECAUSE of the original piece that so many millions of people have seen around the world.
And this ‘thanks for the day off’ debacle is much the same – everyone has been thinking it since it was announced. It was used for John Smiths because it was so perfectly (and I can’t believe I’m going to use this wanky expression) ‘on brand’.
Is it the plate that bothers you? If it was printed on a tea set, would that make it any different?
Anon 4.06 “KK weren‚Äôt the first to do something funny with a commemorative plate”.
Yeah but they were the first to do a commemorative plate for the Royal Wedding with the headline ‘Thanks for the free day off’. Although in fairness, TBWA did change the words ‘Thanks’to ‘Ta’ and ‘free’ to ‘extra’.
Nicked, but wevs innit. Non us types probably won’t have seen the KK stuff. Think Ben’s declaring of interest suggests he didn’t think it was up there with Apple for innovation.
yeah, instead of having fun and just putting out a funny, populist and topical ad for a beer, let’s instead fret over whether or not it’s been done, the degree to which it’s been done, and agonize over what bill bernbach would think.
I’ve never heard of KK or seen their plate either. And that Royal Wedding thing is the shittest thing ever. At least in the old days they’d try and nick something off YouTube and get away with it. Now they don’t even bother and just say ‘yeah it’s a ‘homage’ to a YouTube clip’ because they couldn’t think of an original idea. Their work really, really sucks…isn’t Paul Arden supposed to be talented?
How is this going to work on Facebook?
Wow everyone is stealing ideas now, it’s like it’s ingrained into advertising.

Just stop the wedding shit now. Stop it all.
And stop copying other agencies work TBWA…*cock punch ahoy*
Do you really the idea was stolen?
Everyone in the country has been saying exactly the same thing since the national holiday was announced.

‘Ta for the extra day off inbreds’ There, different. Sorted.
Anon A. Writer, not knowing everything is no excuse. That’s why we have a thing called research.

shaaaaaddup!
I have never seen or heard of KK. Who the fuck are they?
Yeah, it’s such an amazing thought that there’s no WAY two different people had it.
It’s a nice ad FFS. Just right for the brand.
Its not where you take things from, its where you take them to. – Paul Arden

i think i love vinny warren.
You’ve never heard of KesselsKramer?!
HaHa Ben has never heard of KK, i spit out my cornflakes when i heard this.
Ben hasn’t heard of KesselsKramer? Incredible. *stops reading blog*
Oh. I’ve heard of KesselsKramer (of course).
I just missed the memo about the rebrand to ‘KK’.
Silly me.
Is that the sequel to Kramer Vs Kramer?
I made something kind of similar with a bit of a twist.

Far as I know I didn’t steal the idea, I think everyone has a similar feeling about the wedding. (I’d prefer to see William and Kate hung).
Aren’t people getting a bit touchy here? Isn’t the John Smith’s one funny because it’s on a paper plate?
