This is surely worse than the McCann “I’ve Got A Feeling” video as it was actually MEANT to be seen by everybody.
Full disclosure: I work at Engine, but wasn’t involved in making the video.
As far as I’m aware, the new grad intake were asked to make a corporate video about the training scheme for last year’s Xmas party (where this was first shown).
I imagine management thought they’d produce something like this smarmy heap of shite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ROxA7XgHrM
What the grads came back with was the Westwood film. At the time it went down a storm, and now that it’s been stuck on campaign as a “grad recruitment film” it seems everyone’s had a sense of humour bypass.
Oh well, I still think it’s the best corporate video piss-take I’ve seen in a while.
oh dear
Mad Dawg never ceases to amaze. The most embarrassing thing out there (this week).
Is this what got Yan & Luke the boot?…
No wonder Yan & Luke left.
It’s clearly a massive piss-take. Can’t believe you’re judging it as a serious piece of work! Just a bit of a laugh innit.
Maybe they were aiming to be arch-ironic with Westwood using phrases like “best-in-class”. Didn’t work though, did it?
isn’t like, Tim Westwood, like, nearly sixty?
What the fuck would he know about yoof?
On another note (one that doesn’t make me hate advertising as much as that video does)…
Remember Scamp giving this nobhead the treatment ages ago on his blog?

You guys have to be kidding. It’s fucking hilarious. It’s nice to see an agency not taking itself too seriously and being a bit random.
Totally agree Damo. It’s not trying to funny, it’s trying to be shit.
You’re out of touch Ben. Stick to your one-off print ads.
Hilariously bad. It’s shameful. Makes My Family look like Curb Your Enthusiasm.
‘It’s trying to be shit’. Mission accomplished.
Why would you want to entice the best grads with a shit recruitment film? Look forward to seeing what the class of 2012 will be like.
Brilliant. Anything with Westwood in it will be brilliantly shite.
Regardless of whether they ‘meant it to be shit’ (it is), it makes them all look like a bunch of utter cunts. Shameful adwank.
I think it’s quite funny. only quite, though. and it’s pretty fucking important that everyone buys the joke, or it’s going to backfire like a van you bought in a pub.
yon big dawg’s a proper slag though, innit. I might bung him twenty pounds to say that rakim wears women’s frocks for my voicemail.
Nice new talk talk ad on creativity-online.com from Adam berg. You like Ben or no likey?
@wow
Sorry to be pedantic but I believe the seminal “I’ve got a feeling” viral was by Publicis London.
Meanwhile, haterz be hating on westwood. its tha bomb…
I don’t suppose anyone doubts the goal of this work was to be self deprecating and funny. Some brands have done that very successfully recently e.g. Banksy with The Simpsons, The Coca Cola machine work and the Christmas dinner Pot Noodle work springs to mind. I reckon it’s hard to show that vulnerability and for people to see it as bravery and ironic. It can easily go wrong. I think self deprecating work will be a continuing trend too.
I wonder if part of the problem here was that two things were being sent up, Westwood and The Engine Group. One of them maybe should have been the straight actor.
Lesson learned? Never let your grads do creative. Let the creatives do the creative. See what i did there?
Not surprisingly they’ve taken it down.
Still on YouTube though.

They should have got someone like Paul Whitehouse to send up Westwood
“THE WU-TANG CLAN OF COMMUNICATION” fucking hilarious. My phone cut out after that so I haven’t had the privilege of seeing the rest. I guess it couldn’t handle the power of the Westwood.
I loved it but I’m 37 so what the f would I know.
this is the worst
