Rather lovely new Guinness ad
Posted in Uncategorized
I have to confess something: if I’ve posted an ad on here that’s longer than a minute, chances are I haven’t watched it all the way through. Life’s just too darn short, and if they haven’t got me interested enough to spend the extra 30-60 seconds with them, well, that’s job not done, innit?
But on that subject, I happily sat through the 155 seconds of the above. It’s a cute idea very nicely written and made.
However, it is a bit of a rip off of One Man And His Dog*.

Sweet
Too long and boring for a mediocre joke.
I would have enjoyed that more if I hadn’t known it was an ad for Guinness. It made the end more predictable. And the payoff line was a bit too explainy. And I probably will never want to watch it a second time. All that said, still pretty good.
LOVE IT
Nice. I will not watch it again but nice. Predictable – after you see the dog is herding men but nice I guess.
Nice idea – but for Guinness?
Yes, Guinness.
You know, you say to your friends, ‘It’s St Patrick’s Day on Saturday. Fancy coming to the pub?’.
It’s not like it’s for Cillit Bang.
It’s quite good. But I’m sure I’ve seen a comedy sketch of people being herded before? Have no idea where though so can’t back it up.
Sexist and degrading*

I think what 57 meant was that the link between sheepdogs and Guinness is a bit tenuous. It would make more sense for a bitter or summat.
Either way, I agree with MichaelKnight…
Fair point.
ISYJ: you mean the jockey herding from Big Train: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcMuTsBFQTE
how about?
if you post a bin dun comment.
you have to post an ad you’ve personally made that hasn’t bin dun?
anyway. back to this ad.
some lovely touches. feels more carling than guinness. but still good.
Yeah. That is quite an appropriation given the opportunity to be completely original.
Still, a nicely executed appropriation.
It sure makes a change from the usual po-faced, stuck-up-its-own-arse, mega-budget, wank-fest Guinness ads of recent times. I loved Big Train. So did lots of other creatives it would seem.
Wish the VO/commentary on this ad had been edited a little. It does drone on.
Ben,
How about posting that new Carling chrome ad for everyone to have a laugh at?
Likey.
felt let down by the punchline – cheese.
tactical spots opportunity to really bring it to life?
Your wish is my command.
can t wait for you ben. carling chrome bloody hell, is it supposed to be a 90’s pastiche?
Thanks Ben, that’s what I was thinking of.
I admit it’s not the same idea, I honestly couldn’t remember. Big Train was fucking hilarious, that sketch is awesome.
@GOUT-LEGS I was only suggesting it may have been done, I (wrongly) recalled the sketch as people herded by a dog. If you smoked as much heroin as me you’d have a hard time remembering!
