Staying on the D&AD theme, this is what judging a Black Pencil is like

Kind of as you’d expect, really.
I found it interesting to watch the dynamic between O’Keefe and his old boss, Hegarty. Would there be old boys back-slapping or little niggles? Watch and find out.
(By the way, if your work is up for one you might not want to watch this. They’re quite rude about some of the entries they are asked to consider.)
Blah, blah, blah, blah, wank, wank, wank
Very enjoyable.
They’re all so fucking old.
Doesn’t exactly feel like the future, does it?
It’s ok, I reckon.
Tough job.
But we need it. Or else we are bricklayers.
Shit wedding
God they’re such pompous, know-alls.
@george – I thought the future was more old people being in employment for longer, the demographic time bomb and all that.
They all seemed fairly passionate to me. Not like some youngsters today.
Earlier ‘George’ is not me. I’m usual George.
I’m not in the habit of slagging people off for being ‘fucking old’.
I suspended my cynicism for a moment to watch this with an open mind. Right up until the point where the fact that something was a miserable failure didn’t count against it. Then I remembered that these awards have got fuck all to do with genuinely great advertising, and everything to do with stroking dilettante egos and coining it in for those involved.
@ Earlier George, why does it matter how ‘fucking old’ they are? Surely what’s more important is how talented and smart they are, regardless of age?
I guess I’m more interested in what the twentysomethings of the world have to say about the work than a bunch of sixtysomethings.
Not really about talent, although i believe in the kids and what they have to offer.
Just relevance and dynamism.
I love Hegarty – in the same way that you would love a dog that you’d grown up with but now was a bit slow and cranky.
Why do all the awards juries always have the same judges year in year out?
Surely it would be best to have a 4 year gap (or something) where you’re not allowed to judge an award regardless of category.
It would make it more varied.
Also when i watched the clip i couldn’t help thinking it was like sitting in a hairdressers…
How did Penguin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSxCT1Faw6k get on the panel?
