You know I can’t put them up, but check the GP and Golds here.
I could be wrong, but I’d call bullshit on Sharpie, Stihl, L’Oreal, the printer ink thing and Schtick.
But I love those Swiss Life ads, and Bancolombia (although they also look like scam).
What do you think?
Congratulations to all those who scammed their way to Lions again this year. You know who you are. Creatives. CD’s. ECD’s. CCO’s. Global CCO’s. Agencies. Countries. Networks. Wankers. The lot of you
Ehm, all of it looks like scam to me.
Except DWTD and Ray Ban (actually remember seeing one of those in a mag).
Stihl was done by (supervision) Erik Vervroegen. some people would award his canned fart if entered.
I don’t like that Bancolombia ads “it’s only a matter of time”. the claim is crap. it’s also wrong.
love Expedia. bloody genius.
love GP. well deserved. maybe won cause of novelty, but still…
love Pedigree. as a dog owner I can relate and it’s bang on.
love Swisslife. just great.
the rest? well, pretty mediocre.
Pretty much agree with the guy above.
Pedigree is funny.
I loved the Swisslife campaign as soon as I saw it and I wish I’d done it.
Same goes for Expedia.
Ray Ban is a great campaign.
Dumb Ways To Die deserves everything it gets. I saw those posters all over Melbourne last year and they make the city look good.
All the rest smells like ad wank.
Answering a brief with original work is hard. Being creative whilst being persuasive to the target audience is hard. Doing it in a week is hard. When you’ve got 1001 other things on, is hard. Getting a client to buy it is hard. Really fucking hard. Getting them to invest enough money is hard. Seeing it through unscathed is hard. And when you’ve gone through all that, seeing it lose out to work that didn’t have a client, a deadline, a brief etc. Well that’s pretty fucking hard.
I am at Cannes. Outdoor is my favourite medium. I walked around the area where they display all the Outdoor entries. I am an ECD with 18 years experience in the business. 90% of the entries, in my opinion, were scam.
nobby for president.
bunk – more like 98%
Still. we’ve all kinda done it.
but in a very british way. we run the directors cut without the product bit. late at night. on dave. and feel really bad afterwards when it picks up.
but these fuckers. they’re taking it to a whole new level?
I like PEDIGREE and Bancolombia a lot… right now I am working on a bank product that is so complicated to explain in a clean, simple way…
Love SwissLife, and definitely not a scam. This one ran all over in Switzerland. Plus, the CMO there is a smart guy.
Expedia has been the subject of discussion as to whether it’s scam (or an agency initiative) but more fundamentally it’s been done before (and highlighted here) so the jury look like knobs for giving it gold
I guess you could argue that scam used to be a way for smaller agencies and emerging markets to get some sort of parity with bigger agencies who had better clients and bigger budgets. Now I’ve heard that ogilvy have a million pound budget to do agency initiated work. If I worked for an agency that did that I’d spend as much time as possible doing scam, because its easier. So the day to day work would suffer (when was the last time you saw a good dove ad on tv?). And you can bet thst its not just ogilvy. Everybody does some scam, but to do it on such a scale has a massive knock on effect. Clients don’t trust agencies. Creatives who can’t answer briefs get jobs as creative directors. Awards get devalued. The money that could go to paying people properly gets sucked up to sate the scam beast. It’s all bad.
