Interesting campaign, this one.
Comes out of the product in two ways, completely distinctive, simultaneously makes no sense and lots of sense.
What’s not to like?
I like it a lot.
Almost all booze advertising stinks of desperation these days – it wears the desired take-out like a bad hawaiian shirt at a party. This has the confidence to put something out there for the punter to choose to buy into. Good to see someone else doing strong work in the category. Yes, I said ‘someone else’. Check me out.
It made me really want to me get my hair shampooed and drink a Southern Comfort.
Strongest you’ve put up for a while. Immediately want to watch it again.
Where are the Speedos?
It’s great.
It’s perfect.
A lot of stars need to align to make an ad that good.
Very jealous. Well done to all involved.
Long ago I worked on a pitch for Southern Comfort once years ago. apparently it’s just generic grain alcohol with flavoring added. turned me right off. you think it’s some kind of rye or bourbon. wrong.
it was a very long time ago. hope i made that clear.
It’s pretty gross stuff.
take Johnnie Walker – The Man Who Walked Around The World and reverse EVERYTHING in it.
you get Southern Comfort first ad:
highland – beach
celebrity – ordinary guy
speaking – not a word
heritage – contemporary
loads of product info – nothing about product
etc
I think it’s smart & very cool
Makes you smile just watching it.
Does it appeals to men and women? Is it mainly women who drink SC?
Seems like a blokes ad to me.
What I noticed in these ads is that they’re always very simple in terms of what they show. You can always put it in a sentence: man walking down a beach. Man getting his hair washed. It’s not one of those ads that try and cram the 30s full of every “brand” image the client could possibly think about on the shitter.
Very good. Just the right side of understated. Great music. Good cast. Nicely shot. And, on the strength of this advert, unless you’ve actually projected a mixture of Thunderbird and Southern Comfort eight feet across a student kitchen in South Wales, then there’s no reason why you should not want to give it a go. Small thing: I wondered if perhaps the shoe gag was absolutely necessary a second time, given the success of the slip-ons/Speedos in Beach. Perhaps he should have taken a whopping bite of a Knackwurst…
