How many Nike ads is this world cup going to fart out of its arse?

Not particularly interesting animation.
Or plot.
Or idea.
I watched the whole thing just so that I could say the above with some semblance of ‘authority’.
If I didn’t write this blog I’d have stopped it after about 38.4 seconds.
And is Tim Howard really the best goalie Nike sponsor? (Or is his inclusion a nod to the US market?)
Working with athletes has only gotten worse over the years. They are usually the biggest millstone around your neck. they can’t perform on camera and they are only available next tuesday at 7:36 am for twenty minutes. and they have some comments on your idea.
Amazing. Rooney’s character actually made me do one of them LOL’s.
It’s a shit version of this

Yes, it’s the old ‘Nike all-stars play a game of football against some strange enemy’ schtick.
Chill out, Ben.
Where’s Buzz Lightyear and Woody?
I’m already bored of seeing footballers in Favelas and the World Cup hasn’t started yet.
It’s a helluva goal at the end.
Some fodder for your blog Ben:

I’d quite like to see the Nike All Stars take on Melchester Rovers. Or the Hurricanes.
First of all, Tim Howard is amazing. So there.
I quite liked the animation, though I can’t claim to be an expert. But I agree with you about the plot. You go to that extent, why not make the story a bit more inventive? The premise is fine, I suppose. But surely the plot was the easy bit?
(also aren’t Nike and Sky the main powerhouses behind the ‘cloning’ of football?)
Still. At least it didn’t have Lionel Messi and Zlatan playing keeepie uppie on a train, or in a Mosque, or on the International Space Station or something.
Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo, Neymar… Tim Howard?
Nike, spend a bit more cash and get a good goalie in your all-star team.
Sure, the animation is nice, but nothing special.
This is scandalous.
Howard’s for the American market, obz. They idolise him over there.
I can’t believe Rooney gets to rub shoulders with this lot still. He’s character is funny in it though.
I’ve watched it three times now.
I think everyone’s being incredibly harsh, it’s a great bit of film. The kids will love it, and so will the jurors.
Yeah, all twelve of America’s football fans have a Tim Howard poster on their walls.
Think there’s a bit of not seeing the wood for the trees here. The latest formula:
Nike + (another) World Cup advert = shit
Except that this isn’t, and I’m not a huge Nike fan. The Animation is very good. I don’t think it has to be ‘new’ to receive accolades. It’s fairly BBC Olympics-esque (with some Incredibles stuff too) which received a lot of plaudits not so long ago.
There is an actual story here. And it’s funny. Rooney as a trawlerman, Ronaldo as a mannequin, Naymar as a barber, Zlatan trying to peddle his autobiography and referring to himself in the third person. Funny. Genuine character development which you could never have done using the actual dummies, I mean footballers.
Yeah it’s a bit long and there are too many gratuitous skillz but I like it. Compare it to Adidas’s latest dud and it’s not even on the same, erm, pitch.
Dare I say, it’s better than that ridiculous over-the-top Beats ad. But I seem to be in the minority on that one too.
Fine, but I just remember this from seventeen years ago, and feel I saw it all before, back when it was a big deal to make a five-minute long ad with a full-on story and more interesting animation than the technique of that other sports ad or that movie from ten years ago.

Wow. That’s crazy. That was actually on telly? It’s amazing.
It was in the cinema. I remember seeing it and not giving a shit because it was Man U, but looking back it was quite the groundbreaker.
