Ooh blimey. That’s a bit of a stinker. Love the bit in brackets at the end – told me exactly what to think. I love it when ads do that. The ass looks like the belly with a sewn up button, with a waxing thrown in. Oh yeah, and a decent idea taken out.
Well, G-L, the Diesel ad lacks freshness, and for a brand that gets right out there with its own original, lead-the-way, fuck you attitude, it’s a bit poor.
They could have done ‘kick-ass’ in a million ways. Why do one which is so clearly reminiscent of another ad? It makes them look like lazy followers, diluting a brand which has thrived on years of new, different innovative advertising.
The arse is relevent because that ad is a big pile of SHITE.
Jesus that Diesel ad is bad.
Not just because its a poor man’s Reebok but because its just so fucking awful. And the fucking endline telling you what you’ve just seen JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN’T GET IT. Yeah I get it. Now fuck.
At my school bullies used to chase all the fat kids around the playground shouting “BELLY’S GONNA GETCHA”. Doubt they’ll do anything like that with the Diesel ad.
Ben,
I just read about this campaign here, where the creatives explain the strategy: http://theinspirationroom.com/daily/2010/diesel-kick-ass-advertising-campaign/ saying that “Kicking the ass of someone who deserves it is one of the unspoken pleasures of life” AM I missing something? So, its NOT a running shoe, its just a sneaker. So this ad is NOT saying “compete in these shoes and win” its LITEALLY saying go and kick someone in the anus. WTF? Why? That would make me a cunt. So its shoes for cunts? The Reebok ad was a metaphor. I assumed this was too but it seems not. This actually the worst ad/campaign I think I have ever seen.
Jeepers. I just looked at the rest of the stuff that supports the ‘ass kicking’ idea. “Asscaliber” – a poster showing an Arthurian knight pulling a sneaker out of a butt shaped rock…….
9.40 anon: there is no excuse for this camapign. No getting round this for being a “crazy south american”. I actually find it the ads offensive in so many ways. Its shitter than shit.
I wonder how many times the old “cut to the interior of a lift; muzak plays throughout” has been used over the years.
Cracking ad, the belly.
Wouldn’t you expect the client to say, “hang on a minute”? In all seriousness wouldn’t the clinet mind, be pised off, annoyed, upset?

Those crazy South Americans…..
i’m not suggesting the ad is great. just don’t think the reebok example is relevant?
and i just looked at the link.
WHY THE FUCK IS THIS AN ENTIRE CAMPAIGN?
i hope this doesn’t get as much coverage as the stupid campaign.
