It’s basically the up-front, honest route we’ve all pitched in our time that the client endlessly knocks back (if it gets past suits in the first place).
How anyone can call Banksy talentless is beyond me. His ideas are among the best in the world.
And this idea is one of them. It is one of the most powerful bits of social commentary i’ve seen.
I think to not be impressed is to not care about what he’s trying to say.
And a massive pat on the back to the Simpsons execs for running it. I think it’s an important animation. I can’t see how anyone can be unimpressed. Maybe the hype.
I think it’s easy to be jaded about Banksy if you work in the media in London, I mean, there are Banksys all over the fucking place.
But imagine how that Simpsons sequence played to middle America. Sweat shops, rats, finding humour in beheading dolphins…and all before your flagship sitcom and American institution.
We talk a lot about the most talented people in our business leaving, I think this proves that the most talented people were never in our business in the first place.
it’s genius. very daring, but perfect for the simpsons. they’ve joked about the same subject before, but never been so up front.
for those who don’t get it, of which there seem a few, this is how(quite controversially) the simpsons is made.
the factory is next to nike i think?
According to a Guardian contributor – the show’s Exec had to refer to ‘reports’ that the animation is done in Asia because the animators (who of course DO work in Asia) threatened to walk out and not animate the sequence.
I bet they thought the hardest part would be getting it past Fox – not the hired help.
‘Really’ what?
it’s too long.
ben, i’m envious of all these plaudits you’re throwing out there…
“genius”
“brilliant”
what’s your lunch gonna be?
(Oh, and when you reply to me, please start by saying Hi – it’ll be “hilarious”)
Is England just full of haters now?
Hi Ena,
I’ve gone right over the fucking top today!
My lunch will be fucking brilliant!
Leon chicken salad with a side of meatballs! Diet Coke!

!!!!!!!!!
‘Tom’ followed by ‘bored person’ was a serendipitous pairing of comments, wasn’t it?
It’s brilliant because it’s ballsy.
Can you imagine selling it in?
It’s basically the up-front, honest route we’ve all pitched in our time that the client endlessly knocks back (if it gets past suits in the first place).
Just brilliant.
‘mildy seditious ‘artist’ gently takes piss out of show that already takes piss out of itself’ hmm. :/
Clever, but not ‘ONE OF THE MOST BRILLIANT THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN’.
I prefer your Nutrigrain ad – who did that!?
Ben,
I watched that nutri-grain thing and i thought it was so good that i laughed my tits off.
i’m in the hospital now, having some very painful surgery to sew them back on, but fuck it, because i will look fucking fantastic afterwards.
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (etc.)

Dark, brave, clever, funny.

Enjoyable, but typical Banksy; valueless polemics and smugness.
Anon 3:43…By definition, the most talented people in our business were in our business.
Of course, the most talented people in the world probably work in other businesses.

the nutrigrain ad was written and directed by my former AD partner Justin Reardon for his beginner reel. very funny guy. work with him!

Thanks for that Ben, quite right
This is great.
I thought it was better before I read that it had all been approved and collaborated on.
Would have been really great if Banksy had just done it, some how and then got it out there, some how. He manages it with everything else.
His normal way of working is based on the fact that it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than approval.
So it’s a shame that wasn’t the case here.
But it’s still great.
