advertising Rule number one: if you can make a really good product demo, do that.

Isn’t that fantastic?
Whether it’s this one:

or this one:
or this one:
And let’s not forget:
And my favourite (thanks, John S. I was looking for this but couldn’t find it. When I was at college Tony just described it to us and I thought it was amazing. Very pleased to have seen it at last):
Oh, and this amazing one (thanks, S&C):
This one:
And this classic (thanks, J):
They are the best ads.
Cog – one of the finest ads ever made. But how is it a product demo?
And you forgot Kitchen Gun.

couldn’t agree more. first question i always ask myself is Can we do a demo for this? coz if we can, we will.
I’ve never thought i’d be transfixed by golf. Are all the games that exciting?
George, all the components of the car work so well you can rely on them to do a chain sequence like that one.
Agreed.
That bike one is brilliant BTW.
Adrian – did you watch the Ryder Cup?
Adrian – no, but this year’s Ryder cup was.
That TfL spot is amazing and I really didn’t see that coming.
I’m really intrigued by the ‘Whopper Virgins’ ad. I like the concept and I’m really impressed by how much work must have gone into it but can’t help but there’s something patronising and maybe even exploitative about it.

Behold, the king of product demos:

We shot that TFL bike film ourselves on the set of a print shoot! It was a classic ‘we’ve only got money for print guys’ situation. Nearly broke my ankle dropping down from that lorry cab whilst holding the camera…really pleased to see that it’s getting some proper attention now…it’s a massive problem that’s crying out for decent awareness.
I used to like it when Pepsi did this sort of stuff

And classic Solvite ad.

Hey, Bertie, well done. Very nice.
Jim, that first one isn’t so much a product demo as a ‘comedy’ sketch.
loved that solvite one. the late 80s were the golden age of adhesive advertising.
I remember when I worked for ITV, we got calls from devout English Christians(they exist!) who were irate that we had run the Solvite ad on Good Friday.
Slowly we concluded that it must be because the guy in the ad is in a crucifixion pose. Still not 100% sure though.
Always liked this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQQVi51DxQo&feature=related
None of these could work on Facebook or Twitter so they are officially shit.
You might want to also point out that Union Carbide did a successful product demo in Bhopal and are still denying liability or compensation.
Agreed that Cog is no product demo… It’s really more of a fun way to represent the message than to literally demo the product.
Great ad of course, every time I see it I am jealous that I wasn’t the one who got to steal the idea first.
Non advertising comment but this could solve the issue the truck blindspot was trying to highlight.

I agree with Vinny, product demos are a good place to start:

Ben have you noticed that you have the same initials as Burger King? Have you ever had any burger related nicknames because of that?
