Do you really want to know what advertising is all about? i mean really? (I’d like to italicise that last ‘really’, but I don’t know how.)

really
without the spaces should work
that’s really interesting.
are there any women that have done start-ups in the last 10 or so years? i can’t think of one. i mean in a proper role. not as a token woman in a start-up spearheaded by men, but almost leading it.
why
really
without the full stops then
I worked at Wells Rich Greene in the mid-nineties. Mary Wells Lawrence had long since taken the money and retreated to Cap Ferrat so the agency was mainly, not completely, but mainly populated by hacks and has-beens. But what was striking, is that her influence was profound, her ghost literally walked the corridors. Having come from London advertising I wasn’t prepared for how a woman could be incredibly influential. She was an icon. The agency failed quite quickly after that and I’d managed to bail. But wow, she was Peggy Olson on Steroids.
How cool were those Braniff Airlines outfits?
Amazing article.
Have you watched a Century of the Self? It’s brilliant, but for some reason you have to order it from America.
That’s fucking great. Thanks for the link Ben. It really reinforces my feeling that quite a few in advertising have kind of forgotten what it is that we’re here to do.
It is indeed brilliant.
That’s not a BBC product. Adam has encountered numerous rights issues that scupper any reasonable chance of bringing it out on DVD, but let’s just say that a laissez faire attitude exists towards his output ending up on such sites as Google Video.
the sad thing is i think the industry has regressed
regressed, really?
i don’t think it’s changed in the slightest.
there’s just a few more bells and whistles.
hello ben, my comment from last night got lost. html tags for italics should work? they do in the comment section.
instead or “really” write *i*really*/i* or *em*really*/em*
for css font style, in case the html is not working, it should be
*span style=”font-style: italic;”*really*/span*
replace the * with angle brackets in the order of open < and then for the next * close with the mirrored bracket. open, close … i'm talking all bracket complicated, but the blog might eat it otherwise.
that is all i know for now. hope it helps.
Ben, have you got a link to the full list of Campaign Big winners? Is there a pamphlet type thingy or something?
Don’t have the list. Failing by quite a long way to give a shit.
Sorry.
Brilliant article. Way to much to read on a busy Friday afternoon. Will save for the day when I get the ‘sorry – the Client just cancelled the whole thing’ phone call.
Monday probably.
I’m with anonymous 11:36… I’m amazed at how little advertising has changed in the last 50 years. We’re still spouting the same bull shit.
