Today is the motherfucking day.
When I finished this book I tried to get an agent interested.
And I decided to write a blog about that process.
It’s an interesting read in retrospect. You’ll discover that Instinct was initially called Insecticide (too long for the cover of a book of this genre, apparently) and you’ll find that one of the early posts featured the first few chapters of the book, which have since changed substantially, but will give you a rough idea of what you will definitely be buying.
And have no fear, foreign readers. It’s also on sale in Hong Kong, India, USA, Australia, Spain, South Africa, New Zealand, a slightly cheaper place in India and Tesco.
Please enjoy reading it as much as I’m going to enjoy drinking a lot of alcohol this evening.

congratulations. big day. i’ll buy one.
I would have thought the summer season would have been the right time to launch.
Thanks Vinny.
And John: Summer is always somewhat congested for books of this type. I’m going up against celeb memoirs instead.
Congratulations!
Fat mother isn’t it.
Ciaran
I was just thinking wasps would be on people’s minds in the summer more. Hope the Meerkat bio doesn’t derail it.
Congratulations. I hope it sells by the bucket load and stays out of the remainder bin.
Long time South African reader. Not my taste, can I buy it for my 15 year old niece?
You’re living every copywriter’s dream. Many congratulations and best of luck with it.
I’ve cunting bought it.
Well done, Ben. Have bought one at my local Amazon.
Hey Ben
many congratulations… and thank goodness you said it’s available in India 🙂
also, i am no where close to writing a book, i just have 9 titles, is that a start? but i am absolutely going through your how to sell blog now, thanks for that too 😀
and all the luck
My misses said she wouldn’t buy it because the front cover looks disgusting, don’t worry though, I’ll buy it and rub it in her face every night (and the book front cover)
Congratulations, Ben. I hope it sells well. I’m very envious.
Congratulations Ben. I hope that this doesn’t change you. A lot of published writers end up being angry, grumpy middle-aged bastards, who like nothing more than a bitch, a moan and too many clarets of an evening. Oh.
This is huge! Congratulations Ben.
A Suffer Can: buy it for whomever you like.
Ritika: 9 titles… It’s a start. Nine starts in fact.
Everyone else: thanks.
Congratulations Ben, that’s great stuff. I shall purchase a copy.
Thanks Vic.
Congratulations Ben. Great stuff.
I used to follow that blog too and wondered why it stopped but didn’t connect it to your book. I just figured it was one of the many that fall by the wayside.
I hope you are going to go into a shop today and stand next to it, then open it up and announce “fuck me this book is great”
The other one I would always dream of is if you see someone on the train reading it and resisting the temptation to shout “I wrote that I wrote they, hey carriage I fucking wrote that you cunts”
Finally I would go and drink wine in a pub, possibly the French House all afternoon on my own because that’s what you can do because you are a fucking author.
I’m actually off to The Groucho for dinner with my agent, because that’s how I roll.
However, I pity the first person I see reading my book in public, for I will bother them greatly, like a twat.
You could probably rattle some serious snatch off the back of it too (if you weren’t happily married with kids etc). Wouldn’t bet against anal either…
Thanks for the tip NC!
What a great day Ben.
I have ordered a copy.
Great advice TNG.
Perhaps move copies of your book to other sections in Waterstones, as you walk around muttering “Does anyone know when that book Instinct comes out?”
Don’t forget to finish off with g√¢teau de jaffa.
congratulations! hope you will get absolutely smashed and embarass your agent at the groucho. joking aside, dont LOL i had a slight problem with the wasp since it always reminds me of george w. ill probably buy the book as soon as im done with the rest of my reading list. right after la fabrique’s coming insurrection. once again, congrats!
You’re on oprah’s book club already! http://gapersblock.com/merge/Oprahs-Bees.gif
I’ll get one
And I’ll look forward to reading it
[…] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Angus Macadam, Ben Kay. Ben Kay said: New Post: book out today. Read all about it http://ow.ly/3mkHn […]
Hell yes. I’ll pick up a copy in Liverpool Street tonight.

God bless you Gordon.
And don’t forget to rearrange the books so that Instinct sits prominently in front of the others.
Cheers.
well done mate
oh great, i dreamt of a wasp. never happenend before. havent even bought the book yet. whats going to happen when i start reading? is there a rescue page with blue skies and flowers and stuff and a fluffy poem in the book? if not, put one in please in the next edition. thx
Have been reading your blog for a while now. Bought your book on the way home last night and am loving it! It turned a tedious 54-minute train journey (last night, and again this morning) into something that zips by… bloody well done. Am actually looking forward to my return commute tonight so I can get on with it.
Many thanks for your kind words.
I hope you feel you got value for money.
