New Adidas ad

Creature London’s first work after winning the account against Mother and BBH. Directed by Alex & Steffen at Rokkit.
I have been in touch with Dan from said agency, but I forgot to ask him this question: why do Adidas spend a fortune on some of their ads, and not quite such a fortune others, such as this one.
I suppose the big brand stuff is more worthy of dinero, but does that mean Creature won the whole account, or just the specific trainer briefs?
And if so, why?
Maybe someone at Creature or Adidas can answer these questions.
Meanwhile, what do you think of the ad?
HEY DOODZ, CHECK DIS OUT YO! IMZ BUYING DA NU SNEAKUR FROM FUT LOKR AND IZ BE DA BIG MAN ON CAMPUZ! EVEN DA POSSY BEING AFRAID YO! DEM BITCHEZ JUST CHASIN MY HAWT SNEAKURZ! CHECK IT OUT YO!
Isn’t it a footlocker ad, rather than an adidas ad?
The girl is attractive.
Adidas spread their business so thin. I know Sid Lee handle all the big juicy briefs. Iris seem to be doing some cool stuff for them too. TBWA used to do some nice work but no longer have a relationship with them. And now Creature. Pretty sure the list goes on.
Oh yeah and the ad. Yeah the ad’s shit.
Wear adidas, smell like a Gorilla
It’s alright, innit? Not quite sure why the bouncer’s pink poodle aura/avatar/thingy is frightened of our hero’s trainers, but never mind.
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World rip off surely?
Is it running in the US? It looks like it. Good strategy but cheesy execution. Also, I’d have stayed clear of a Gorilla if it was my ad.
That is really horrible.
‘Visionaries’.

That’s hilarious.. here’s a clip for the rest of you..

I can’t say I get it really. I like the animals. I just think we coudl have done without the humans.
It is a mystery who gets what on the adidas business. I would love to know. Is it wise to have so many different agencies producing so many different bits? I don’t know adidas’s tone of voice or endline anymore. Can’t be a good thing.
Maybe if you are a 14 year old boy do you want to be a green Gorilla… Not great is it. I agree with The Real Richard H. What is the endline for adidas these days?
Just watched the Kenny Powers ads again. THAT’S how you do ads for trainers/kicks/sneakers/tubes/ whatever the young folk are calling their daps these days.
Changing the subject, here’s a new campaign for Newcastle Brown Ale from Droga 5:

Isn’t that John Smith’s strategy? And by ‘ridiculing’ Stella’s ‘chalice’ BS, aren’t they just drawing attention to it? And finally, are Stella drinkers and Newcastle Brown drinkers one and the same? If not, I don’t get that part of the strategy. (But I did laugh at the joke at the end of the ‘brewmaster’s hands’ ad.)
it’s a footlocker advert, so they haven’t got the whole account, just the campaign for the trainers. it’s in conjunction with adidas, of course.
i think it’s rubbish. sorry.
Really?
nasty.
I think the idea of familiars connected to your trainers is nice but it has been executed badly, poor effort imo.
Think Creature have the Sony account too..

Well, there’s my afternoon gone – *heads to youtube for 80’s cartoon fix*
Mildly watchable (fit bird). Massively forgettable ad, unless your an Italian exchange student – you’ll bloody love it.
I worked on adidas once.
They flew three of their (youngish) marketing bods over to London from their German HQ for a presentation.
They arrived at our offices dressed HEAD TO TOE in heavily branded adidas sportswear. HEAD TO TOE I tell you…
I’m not sure if this moves on the debate or not.
Cheap ‘n nasty.
Casting from hell.
isnt it one of those where it was ALL supposed to be about cool creatures and then the client went “no no no, i want the real person in it as well as the avatar…” and that’s why is a bit shit? if we’re discussing wether is footlocker or adidas means is not very good anyway.
ITS FUCKIN CLASS THAT AD LIKE
here’s how it goes…
the big briefs are with sid lee…although increasingly TBWA are getting more and more of these. This lack of clarity over who leads the brand and political in-fighting client side is why there’s an Adidas world cup pitch going on. Projects like this – for Footlocker – often end up either being done in house with a brand design team, or being pitched out (and agencies stampede to do it). But it’s less money, less good clients….and then everyone realises that a partner retail brief is always crap…. as you have FootLocker/retailer clients who want to put their oar in as well…they are funding it too you see…so they HAVE to make sure the retailer is happy. And the retailer wants shoe shots, shots of happy teens, partner logos the size of houses etc. In the end the work tends to be ok like this one, the agency feels that it didn’t do its best work (but wants to PR it anyway cos it’s Adidas) and everyone goes ‘meh’. I know, I’ve been there.
As noted above, while Nike continue to hone their point of view, Adidas continue to dilute theirs….some of this is simply down to better clients at nike who see the value in doing extraordinary creative, but part of it is down to the more focused agency/client approach of nike vs adidas.
Philip Pullman – His Dark Materials – daemons anyone?
Newky Brown is the poorest thing I’ve seen from Droga5 yet. Doesn’t get above mildly amusing. Expected better from such a talented shop run by the man who has “won more Cannes Lions than anybody else”. Has he really?
After the riots in Camden the Foot Locker store remained untouched. JD Sports a couple doors down was ruined.
What does this tell you? There are no fresh crepes in Foot Locker. It’s now a Vans store. No lie.
One of the animals in the ad should have been the giant rat they found in the basement of a FL store in the Bronx.
http://gothamist.com/2012/01/06/giant_rat.php
It should have been actual size, wearing the trainers and doing sick dance moves. This would have made me feel better about the ad.
@ Brian. Totally agree – the idea is a direct steal from Phillip Pullman. And then they made it look like sh*t as well. Talk about rubbing salt into the wound…
So this is basically adidas does the golden compass with a bit of scott pilgrim…another rip off
I’m not sure Mr Droga has personally won any Cannes Lions… he’s had his name as ECD on a few though.
Anyone know the name of the tune in the background?
what song is playing in the beackground of the comercial i like it ;p
nvm found it its
