I keep meaning to put this up, then I forget, remember again, forget again and finally I remember:

Just a reminder: that is the star of The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, Heat etc.
He can’t be that poor.
Is he that poor?
Al, if you’d said how tight things were we’d have had a whip round. We owe you. We have loved you.
Sea of Love, Donnie Brasco, even Scent of a sodding Woman.
HOOOOOO-AHHH!!! That’s what you said to win your Oscar.
I’D LOVE SOME CASH!!! That’s what you said a few months ago.
Sniff…
Oh, hang on, he’s already sunk a long way lower than that:
A million bucks for a day’s work is clearly very hard to turn down.
But a Kickstarter to keep Tony Montana out of ads would probably work too.
My mum likes the ad.

The first one I could’ve lived with. The second one not so much. I guess they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
The second ad isn’t for real. It’s from a film called Jack and Jill where Pacino plays himself. Awful film by Sandler (shock). Sandler plays a dude who works in advertising, and writes Pacino into a DD commercial.
The first ad is shitzwallop too.
Pacino and De Niro have been on a slow decline for years. Bohoo.
I think that’s clear from how the clip ends, but it still means that Al has sunk so low he’s been in Adam Sandler’s worst movie.
At least De Niro got an Oscar nomination this year (if entirely undeserved).
a million bucks for a day’s shoot. who’d turn that down?
Is that what he got? If I was worth 135 million, me. But then if I’d already done the Sandler thing I’d do anything for a fiver.
Gervais did.
Bruce Willis was in an ad a while back – surely he’s a similar sort of actor, or does he have a more kitsch, ironic appeal?
It perfectly fits our times. Which is sad. Magna Carta blahblahblah bloke, worth what? A 500 Million bucks? Yet releases his album in sponsorship with a phone company? Every damn sports stadium has the name of a brand instead of where it sits, what it means?
We’ve become very lazy in our pursuit of what is greatness. It’s a sheer number these days. The higher, the better.
It used to be about doing your thing, and making some money on the side. Now it’s all about the number. It’ll bite us in the arse one day, soon.
Caroline: he doesn’t have quite as great a body of work. He’s primarily an action monkey with a sideline in more dramatic roles, which he services by putting on a face like he’s taking a particularly tricky dump.
Maybe Al thinks all advertising is shit. The kind of shit to be instantly flushed away like a beery turd the day after a long drinking session. And MAYBE, because Al sees all advertising as shit, he doesn’t care to differentiate between different doing shit ad ‘A’ or shit ad ‘B’.
@Ben (comment 12): I think Pacino’s doing the same, judging by the poster frame of the Sky ad above… Or is that his sex face?
Why the fuck would Pacino give two shits? It’s a million quid and he probably shot it 10 minutes from his house.
It’s running in a tiny country a million miles away. He’s never gonna have to see it, think about it, be reminded of it.
Also, from a creative’s p.o.v, consider the approval process for that script – I bet it was:
Group Heads > ECD > Junior Client > Senior Client > Sky’s In-house Creative Director (probs a failed CD/Director) > Research > Al’s people’s people > Al’s people > Al…
Fucking lucky to keep it anywhere short of getting analised to death and a bit of a ballbag for the team to have to see it up here (albeit from a different editorial slant – Pacino being a tool for doing it).
As an aside though, I thought the Bruce one was pretty good, as far as populist fare goes.
When I saw the Adam Sandler shit (on YouTube) I thought: ”Well, probably Al is so old now that he doesn’t care anymore”… but if I’m not mistaken Pacino has reportedly quit his role in “Despicable Me 2,” just two months before the film’s release… citing CREATIVE DIFFERENCES… so… I have no idea…
I know it’s not real, but I genuinely love that Dunkin Donuts spot.
Maybe he’s like Bacon and lost a fortune to Madoff?
he did a shitty coffee ad in Oz about 3 years ago too.
