Workability: it’s all that matters
Posted in Uncategorized
In my old age I’ve come round to thinking that the only thing that really has any significance is the degree to which something is or isn’t workable.
You want to have a long and happy marriage? Are you doing things that will make that work?
You want to win a D&AD Pencil? Are your current circumstances likely to make that work?
You want to go to sleep? How does what you’re doing make that work?
It’s as simple as that. Either you are doing what works for what you want to achieve or you aren’t.
If not, change your behaviour until you’re doing something that make your aim more workable.
I think that way happiness lies.
This is how the whole world works. When you’re on auto-pilot, no problem. You’ve done it before, so you recognize every pattern you’re in and there’s no need to worry.
just what i needed this morning. i am moving cities [for the husband], serving my notice period at saatchi & saatchi and i don’t know what lies ahead. thanks ben.
Best of luck!
Waaaaaait a minute…you mean I have to actually DO stuff to get that pencil? And that fit blonde to give me her digits? Damnit Ben, it’s only Tuesday!
I agree. It is as simple as that.
But it’s amazing how a bit of pragmatism and routine gets in the way of that clarity.
So what do you do when you’ve tried everything you can think of and it’s still not working?
I think cheerily knowing that you are definitely going to die soon is a good way of being happy. Though prima facie it may not appear that way.
It also lessens one’s desire for a D&AD pencil. But that is perhaps less surprising.

Brilliant post and it’s so true. Simple concept but often complicated by other factors in life. Maybe it’s time to simplify our lives and rethink what we want and what we are doing to get there.
that is so true. i think part of the problem is that most people are, understandably, reluctant to hit the great big RESET button of life. it exists.
….I’m pressing it right now!
Come on guys!
Let’s go running towards a sunset.
