(Thanks, S&C.)
By the way, this appeared in my Facebook feed quite a few times last week but I never chose to click on it.
Why? Well, I loathe those links that say ‘This guy found a kitten. What happened next will blow your mind’ or ‘There’s only one real way to pick up a girl, and you’d never do it to a stranger’. I’m suspicious of clickbait bollocks, so I tend to leave links alone unless they really do look worth it.
I guess that policy made me miss this ad, but it’s been a small price to pay.
Oh. Uhm. I meant for you to take it apart because it’s obviously fake and has been done already, twice:

You can edit this comment out if you like. See what the other commenters have to say first?
Oh. I’d never seen it done before, and thought lots of people in HK spoke English.
Ah, fuck it, let’s leave it up.
it might be contrived (what isn’t?) but I think it works anyway. people watched it online and thought anew about how stupid texting and driving is. I was leery too. how can you send a text to everyone? but the idea worked on me.
@Vinny it seems this is the new formula everyone is jumping to: make a contrived video about people watching an ad/stunt and then put it on YT to see their real (or fake) reactions to it.
I liked the first link I put up in the comments section more. It does the same while giving you a product benefit why you should buy a VW.
@S&C, agree that one is a better ad since it sells a great feature. the other one worked on me as a lazy viewer who doesn’t really care whether a video is contrived or not. and yes, pranking/stunt is the new craze. done my share of it. it’s fun to do.
@Vinny so what do you think is more effective? The real ad that works or the contrived one that makes you think?
According to my Facebook news feed it’s a Graham Fink special.
@S&C, the one that advertises the problem and the solution is a great ad for a great feature. the first one just reminds me of what I already know: i’m a texting and driving idiot.
