Shocking condemnation of ad industry…
Today the wider media shook its head at another dismal example of the ad industry’s most pathetic behaviour…
The headlines:
ADVERTISING INDUSTRY SHAMELESS IN ITS MORAL BANKRUPTCY
SENIOR AD INDUSTRY FIGURES DEPRESSINGLY CORRUPT.
JUST AS WE THOUGHT: ADLAND POPULATED BY CRAVEN, SCHEMING FUCKWITS
LYING, DECEIT AND FAKERY ALIVE AND WELL IN AD INDUSTRY
“WE’RE SO SHIT AT THIS, WE HAVE TO MAKE THINGS UP” ADMITS PACK OF TITS
Seriously, can everyone involved in this just fuck right off?
It’s hard enough trying to maintain credibility in the face of the jargonistas who can’t use one word if 35,000 will do.
And all the online ads that are so annoying that adblockers are the only way of maintaining your sanity.
And the sophomoric race to the next shiny new thing, like kittens chasing the light from a laser pen…
When we have to deal with another Lifepaint cackwipe it really doesn’t do us any favours.
For a communications industry whose entire reason for existence is to present things in their best light we are pretty fucking AMAZING at doing the opposite when it comes to ourselves.
Right on!
The Daily Mail can piss up a rope.
True, but it’s one of the most popular sites on the internet, so, y’know… consequences.
Cannes Lions chairman Terry Savage said: “The way we handle these things is by not reacting in Cannes. To really look at these things you need time, you need to take a deep dive. So when we get a controversy — we wait till after Cannes — look at it, investigate it and take whatever appropriate measures we need to.”
The only appropriate thing to do here is to strip the agency of the award and ban them for life. You want to be an authority for creative awards? Start by showing some integrity.
“…So when we get a controversy — we wait till after Cannes — look at it, investigate it and accept cash from the same people next year.”
It’s a Grey area.
Isn’t it strange that winning at Cannes is more of a reward than creating an app that could save thousands of lives.
It is far beyond parody. There seems little point in even criticising it now either – as there’s seemingly nothing that would shame people participating in the utter fucking crackfest that is Cannes.
All I’ll say is this – if you’re participating in any way, you’re part of the problem with advertising.
Maybe Cannes could dip into it’s vast profits to make it happen
Does Cannes not look properly into any of the entries. Do they just watch the stupid entry videos. Why is it up to the media to tell us about these scams. Also how much more would it have cost to actually develop the app for real and save lives.
I think Rory Sutherland sums up Cannes pretty well.

he is 100% correct IMO.
Spot on.
It’s disgusting behavior.
Seems like the idea hasn’t just failed to do any good, it’s done bad. MOAS charity had to defend itself for working with Grey. Hopefully it doesn’t put people of giving money to them.
Rory hates the place…. but he’ll just give it three days.
rory nailed it.
