A very satisfying sight. Even better would be a pic of customers gouging one anothers’ eyes out to get at the last copy. But give it time, that’ll come.
I’ve just been to Smiths in the Plaza shopping centre Oxford Street. They don’t have it, but they informed me that there are many copies in every station Smiths. Might pop down to Euston later.
Ben,
perhaps a post about how it feels to see your book on the shelf? did you watch to see people skim over it or ignore it over another book? did you feel like telling someone that it was yours? do you feel bigger than advertising now? do you feel better about yourself after seeing it on the shelf or is the bigger buzz when you actually finish the last chapter? or when you find a publisher? does it compare with the buzz of first seeing a tv ad on air that you wrote and liked when you first got into advertising? second last, did you buy a copy? last, have you read it to check for typos?
Yabbadabbadoo: I didn’t take that picture, so I have yet to see it on a shelf. I hope to change that at lunchtime.
It feels very pleasant indeed. I can only liken it to making a bet at 1,000-1 then spending three or four years trying to coax it home. Very satisfying if it comes off.
Do I feel bigger than advertising? No. Advertising’s pretty big.
Finding a publisher was the most amazing part of the experience because it’s the confirmation that your daft 1000-1 bet came in. This is all very nice, but I’ve certain it would happen for the last 18 months.
It’s about 100 times better than the ad on TV because most people don’t care about the ads on TV, whereas if anyone reads this, they’re going to spend a few days or a week in its company by choice, paying their own money to do so.
I’ve got enough free copies not to buy one, and it’s been checked for typos many times, although every time I flick through it I find lapses in writing quality that I can’t believe I missed. But I think most authors experience that sensation.
Having said that, I’ve never read the physical book (I read it at least fifty times when I wrote it).
I think I speak for almost everyone on here when I say… my desire to your book become a runaway success is only marginally outweighed by my desire to see it become a humiliating failure.
im still laughing about the holocaust. they all wanted to live, but got tortured and killed. that was so funny! every sane and sensible person is laughing about it. oh wait, no, they don’t. must have no fucking sense of humour.
go on fool yourself with your ridiculous abilities. ha ha ha. wait, im laughing. about you. lol. you twat.
ps: very impressed to see it took you only three days to come up with a retort. kudos.
Wow! Is that impressive, or what? Go on, my son!
You mean one can get it half price already? Fuck a duck!
If you buy one, you get another half price.
Go on – buy two.
You can sleep restfully Ben as I will buy yours at rrp and then the other book, prob Widdicome’s will be half price.
Well done Ben,
That means everyone working at DDB, and coming in by tube, will see it every morning.
A whole blinking shelf. Nice one.
Nice one.

Ben can you keep us up to date with sells. Jim
On offer already? I was under the impression its just been released.
photoshop?
Anon: publishers are very keen to be included in the offers from the word go. It helps to ensure many more sales.
I will certainly detail those sales here as I am told about them.

Sounds like the kind of line that could be in the book.

Tony Penguin says he’ll keep an eye on your sales figures for you.

That’s all my Chrissy pressies sorted.
Well done.
Congratulations.

wtf is going on with you mckevin. i hate seeing humiliating failures. sometimes they come along as words missing reason or humour.
a nonono,
there is no failure more humiliating than that of one’s sense of humour.
