Please download the Water water Everywhere App
A couple of months back I asked for some help to create an app for my project to encourage people to drink tap water instead of bottled.
Almost immediately Hayden Stainsby of Caffeine Concepts stepped forward and led me to believe that he could make it happen. Knowing little of the app making process I took him on his word and – bloody fucking hell – he’s only gone and done it really, really well.
You can now download it for free from the itunes store.
The one bit of help he needed was in getting everything to look amazing, so we needed a designer.
Again, within moments of the call going out, Shaheed of The Creative Floor recommended the excellent Crystal Lee, who said yes straight away. Her logo is at the top of this post and her work has really brought the whole thing together to look completely professional.
Both she and Hayden have been absolutely brilliant, getting things done quickly with the minimum of fuss. I can’t recommend either of them highly enough.
Now, if I could ask you all a favour:
Please, please please download the app and start using it. The important thing here is the ‘submit’ function, which allows you to find a water source we haven’t included (eg: water fountain, pub, cafe etc.) and tell us about it so we can add it to the map.
The more complete the map is, the more people use it and the less damage to the environment.
Thanks again to Hayden and Crystal and thanks in advance for your help.
PS: Also huge thanks to Lizie, George, Us and the rest of the guys at Academy who have taken on the task of making TV and online ads to publicise the app and the campaign. More about that in the near future.
UPDATE: are you or do you know an Android or Blackberry app developer? Apparently the skillz are quite different to developing an Apple app. Get in touch at wweverywhere@gmail.com.
Also, the map now covers the whole of the UK – that’s 5300 locations. Excellent.
Andriod version in the pipeline?
I’ll ask Hayden.
Pipeline! I get it!
Very good.
And a Blackberry one, please! Love this idea.
Yeah i concur – Android please. Also very impressed with the speed of the turnaround, hope this all goes well.
Well fucking done sir. Very, very impressed.
Ben,
congrats big indeed. You’ve done it. Downloaded and 4star’d it.
See you on 5/9/11
Daz
Great. See you then.
And yes, if everyone who downloads it could review it (positively please), that would be great.
Ta.
It’s really good and it worked straightaway. Did they do 6 routes for you first? I like the way the idea is mushrooming out from Social Media and crowd-sourced content into the mainstream, with TV coming afterwards to sweep up the late-adopters. That’s so very.
I saw several routes starting in 2008. Rejected most of that shit. Bought a few routes. Rejected them after six months of research. Started again. Sacked the client, put the thing up for re-pitch, went through the above twice more and played a fuck of a lot of golf (handicap down to 8).
I was just amazed that it was real. Why didn’t you just do a making-of film with the ‘In the month of June…’ VO, and a one-off poster that never ran outside your loo? Why did you go to all this trouble? You are so not ECD material in a large under-performing London network hub with a famous name.
Nice one, got my 5 stars.
Anyone making any money here?
This needn’t be limited to the UK.
If there are other people around the planet reading this blog, then download the app and put in your local free water spots.
Absolutely. Please submit free water spots wherever you can.
It looks great Ben congrats.
There’s having a good idea but then there’s being arsed to actually put it into practice – so hats off to you.
Thanks ‘Giggs’.
I just hope all this do-good, pro-active, social responsibility guff doesn’t take your eye off your real life’s work. No, not raising happy children, you mook, keeping us lazy fucks entertained with regular posts, arch criticism and finger-pointing triumphalism. So stop reading and get typing…
I’ll leave it up till tonight. Normal service resumes then.
Nice one Mr Kay. Will try and get it tweeted etc etc in the usual places. Well done
Ben. Really good app. Not massively into your water cause to be honest. But this app goes a little way to making me care. Great work.
Just curious anonymouse, but what’s not to be ‘into’ with the water cause? Companies are bottling tap water, selling it at a premium and damaging the environment. Surely the only excuse people have is ignorance, which is what we are trying to change.
Good work ! Have a plan and other will help! Love it !
hey george.
more into providing the basic rights to kids in the worst shit in the world. clean water for them would be a priority for me. bit of nutrition. vaccinations. that kind of thing. stopping free-market water distribution just isn’t cause celebre of choice for me.
if i could change five things, shutting down evian wouldn’t be on of them. but doesn’t mean it isn’t a good thing to push.
