New Harvey Nix ad

Fun to watch.
A good truth about laydeez and parties and all that.
Well shot.
I like it.
Nice one.
(Interest declared: I know Rob and Mike, who are the very talented creatives behind it.)

Stupid. Stay away from these boring old stereotypes. Something I would expect to have seen about 20 years ago. Poorly shot as well. Lets have some original thinking please.
Reminded me of this:

DDB always make this ad. Catfight, streetfighter, VW fight. What’s going on over there?
i don’t find it funny or entertaining at all. Feels a bit sloppy. Haven’t that agency done the ‘women hurting each other over clothes’ a bit too much now?
A simple truth nicely put although it could have easy come in under a min, surely? As for the distinct dresses on offer I thought it’s all about keeping it simple and accessorising to avoid same outfit disasters…ladies?
Do Harvey Nichols only sell one of every dress?
Is that a gag on ‘if looks could kill’?
If so, it could have been done so much better.
Plonky endline/idea summer-upper.
Jesus, what a bunch of trolls.
Harvey Nicks is a great ad. Hands up anyone who’s done anything better this year.
Have to agree with @Christian, how do Harvey Nichols stop you from having the same dress disaster? Pretty flawed idea if it isn’t for custom clothing.
I’m sure it wasn’t, but it looks/feels cheap somehow. That’s the antithesis of what Harvey Nicks *should* feel like. Not the highlight in work for the brand (which has been sliding slowly downhill for a while).
I like this. It was made, so I have been told, on a very small budget by very good directors. The dress at the end looks like bacofoil though. But then I am a bloke in my 40s, so what do I know outside my cross-dressing fantasies?
I lazily thought about bitching about this ad, but unlike some of the other people here, who have obviously made some really shit-hot, awards-garnering, dust-off-the-black-suit work this year, I haven’t.
Seemed very cold to me. The women in it are models and don’t appear to have an acting bone in their collective bodies.
Odd choice of director. Your mate with the ‘laser eyes’ app could have done a better job.
Should have got someone to get more emotion from the women rather than the tech-fest route.
Last year’s ad – however much stick it got – was better.
This is a piece of shit that’s been polished with a stinkier piece of shit.
Jesus… It’s not like every single dress is different. They just have a bigger range of more unusual dresses, making it less likely that you’re going to match the mouth-breather who shops at Whistles.
feels same as DFS ad.
Too long. Music sounds cheap. Two main actresses look too similar. Not bad. But far from great.
If you want the odds stacked in your favour just keep it simple and accessorise.
I think it’s actually pretty good. Err and no Mary think it’s meant to be the evils women give each other not ‘if looks could kill’.
I tried to make a fancy ad on no money once. Never again.
How exactly does it deal with the problem of the same dress? Does Harvey Nix only sell one of each dress…?
Sooooooooooo long….
I really like it but can’t help but compare it (negatively) to previous Harvey Nichols work. I can really see where you’re coming from re: the low(er) budget as it doesn’t have the gloss I’d expect from them. That’s kind of a good thing in a strange way I guess.
From a personal taste standpoint I wish it turned up the kitsche and camp a bit more. I know they go there with the dog and ridiculous glasses but it would have been great to see it go full blown Death Becomes Her because, well, Death Becomes Her is amazing. There’s something Meryl Streep-esque about the red haired model too which might be guiding me to that.
The red dress is fcking hideous though(x3). It’s like her intestines have escaped her body and are trying to engulf her. Presumably it’s not supposed to be a HN dress so again, working in a strange way.
Gotta say, there is now way it’s as good as any of the other previous Harvey Nics ads. It’s not about being critical for ones sake but telling it like it is, and we can only compare.
It has a cheapish look to it too which surprised and doesn’t engage me for whole ad (does feel long as someone said). Think it just doesn’t seem fresh. Quite disappointed really as the agency and brand are both reliably great.
Shot in the DDB offices?
It’s shit.
