Another fine ad that uses the internet to better effect than it could use TV*

I laughed out loud at the sellotape and machete bit.
And I know we say this many, many times, but look how brilliantly American ads get all the product crap in AND amuse you at the same time. It ain’t easy, but it’s clearly possible.
*That post title’s a bit inelegant. Sorry about that. I’ve got to rush off to a meeting.
Just watched it 3 times and laughed every time. Love it. F***ing brilliant.
I love how the machete bit didn’t work properly but it makes it all the more funnier.
Two thumbs up, and I ain’t talking Len Fairclough.
AWWWWWW you Americans you! Showing us what a real ad looks like and making us laugh in the process. Let me give you a big slightly-too-long-in-duration-awkward hug.
(in a whispering tone): rescue me
There is an article about the start up here. The man in the video is the owner of the company. Great acting skills. Very very funny.

Shave time. Shave money.
Now THAT is class.
Christ knows what their business plan looks like. I guess it’s based on up selling you loads of other stuff once they’re talking to you.
But the ’19 goes to Roger Federer’ seals it for me.
I’m in!
top advertising!
…also, made me want to check out their company – $1 a month for razors? Sounds ace
Is it real? Not scam? For a real client? Who, like, paid money for it and everything? Superb.
the traffic crashed their site. so job done.
Quality.
Hats off. Really good stuff that, good to see.
I’d slash my wrists with a razor to have done that.
Someone dressed as a bear and a pun strapline. Up yours pseudo intellectual cd’s.
Brilliant!
Wow.
15 comments (at time of writing) and no one’s slagging it off yet. This is unheard of!
Great ad.
Watched it 5 times. Still love it.
OK, I’ll slag it off: I hate it.
(just because I didn’t make it)
Who needs an agency any more? This guy and a friend wrote, produced and distributed this for $4,500. And it’s better than 99% of everything we do.
On an unrelated note: anyone seen this?: http://youtu.be/-Htf3INkpLI
Sorry, link is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avFXOZWpkpo&feature=youtu.be
Uncommon thinking for the common good?
Seriously, there’s a gratuitous use of someone dressed as a bear and puns. What gives? The amount of cd’s I’ve heard who slag off puns and aspire to Chekhov’s gun theory is ridiculous and yet here they are all loving this ad. Seriously, what gives?
Is Webster the only man who said he couldn’t give a flying fox what anyone in the industry thought and was only bothered whether the man on the street whistled the tune in his ad or not.
It’s time for those in the ad game, for it should be a game and not a biz, to stick their colours to the mast and stop changing sides as and when it suits.
Just as a footnote aren’t we just talking basic gestalt here.

Please, any cd’s out there that tune in here regularly, you included Ben, can you enlighten me regarding your feelings for the use of puns and other such mullarkey that bears no relevance to the product advertised. Pun intended.
I am keen to learn.
“Why is it good when they do it, but it isn’t good when I do it?”
“Because when you do it, it isn’t good.”
I especially love the fact that there is a big fat Toyota logo on the still for the video. Yet everybody remembers what the ad is for: shaving for a dollar a month. I can imagine the bean counters going ballistic if this ever happened in an agency.
C’mon Scamp, I know you loiter here, now and again. How about it?
What’s the deal with slagging off puns and irrelevant gimmicks and then when an ad like this comes around everyone is singing it’s praises.
Call me old fashioned an all but shouldn’t we reserve judgement until we see if it can pass mustard, yes mustard Ben, at 30 “.
Peace out.
