The Sun’s World Cup ad

Here’s the Sun’s World Cup ad:

I have to say that it really stands out amongst the giant CG-festeramas that have been populating the WC airwaves, but beyond that it feels just right for the product and the country.
See how you feel when you watch it compared to the Nike or Samsung ads and you’ll realise how a focussed ad for a smaller target can hit home with more impact.
It’s also hard to stop watching it once you start, and that’s a rare thing these days.
Interview with director Ed Morris (interest declared: he’s a friend) here.
Yep, very good. If anyone knows their audience, it’s the currant bun.
Shame about the obligatory ‘member of the public capturing it on their phone’ shot, though.
I admit it really does stand out and have noticed it a lot. And feels more genuine. That said…
I never knew it was for The Sun and I’ve never even remotely tried to read what it says on the back of the shirts past the third guy (or will) as it’s too annoying concentrating on the words/ball at the same time and the first few words never interested or engaged me enough to want to try.
If it’s any consolation, I’ve pretty much only seen this with the sound off, by default, as it would be ITV coverage.
One thing I will say though is that it must be well directed and believable that it’s a ‘one-taker’ and was hard as I usually cast my eye over it to the end and there’s genuine emotion from everyone involved on display. That said… I will never read the words on the back of the shirts instead of watching the ball bounce and willing them on…
Oh come on
Is it real?
hahahahahahahaha.
Good joke, you got me.
I’d love to know what this bloke thinks of the Sun ad.

nice idea
Its good. Way prefer it to Nike and Beats. The reason? It appeals to people that hate football as well as those that love it. Which makes a good commercial in my eyes (remember the old quote from Jaun Cabral in some interview: ‘I wanted balls to entertain the people that could never afford the TVs).
The idea is good. The execution, great.
Yep, agree, feels England all over. Not unlike Mr Kaye’s old masterpiece from way back when http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_ZyPcMmiwQ
This is interesting as it’s a different edit than the one that aired. In the only one I ever saw on TV, an edit is inserted on the ‘find’ girl at 0:35, when she messes up her header. I always thought this was because it was the point at which the sequence was broken, thus they inserted an edit to make it look like a single take.
